With Valentines Day around the corner, we could all use a few extra tips on taking care of the one that we love. For singles, developing seductive culinary skills will get you one step closer to bagging your Valentine. My beloved friend Mona Holmes helps us achieve the above objectives with her exciting new venture “Cook This Get Laid”
Mona is a Los Angeles based health food writer and culinary expert that offers excellent tutorials, recipes and anecdotes about food on her blog and youtube channel. Although her work is geared towards men who are looking to impress the ladies; her wealth of food knowledge is useful to single women, and married couples alike. Below please check out my Q&A with Mona Holmes as we talk food and getting laid ![]()
Q: How did you discover your passion for healthy, delicious food? Have you always been a health food enthusiast?
A: Before I started writing about food, I was a very unhealthy music journalist. I ate what I wanted, slept very little and just didn’t feel very good overall. That eventually turned into a health scare (at age 33) where I was told I needed surgery to remove fibroids. My sister and boyfriend told me to try changing my terrible symptoms by changing the way I ate. It worked. Not only did the symptoms disappear, my waistline shrunk considerably! After that, I couldn’t go back. I stay within the foods that work, so I try to avoid wheat, dairy, sugar, gluten and meats unless I know how they were raised. The recipes on my blog reflect this. Then I started the Cook This…Get Laid blog, because I believe that men need to get into the kitchen and cook healthy meals for us women. This practice was done by the same man encouraged me to eat well to get healthy, while preparing healthy meals for me: my husband.
Q: What foods/ingredients are guaranteed to get him or her hot?
A: Everyone is different with different taste buds, so I always tell men to ask a woman what she likes before anything else. THEN, to actually listen to the answer. Planning a meal and having all of her favorites ready is a surefire way to get her hot. And with men, it doesn’t take much to get them going EVER.
Q: Many men have never set foot in the kitchen, where should the rookie cook start?
A: The rookie cook can start with setting up his kitchen right. First, make sure it’s clean. When I say clean: I’m sayin’ get a mop, soap and sponge clean. Second, get the following: One good knife, A 1 quart saucepan, a 10 or 12 inch saute pan and a 5 1/2 quart pot (for boiling and steaming), Get online. There’s plenty of resources and tutorials out there, but I have videos that will show you how to make delicious meals. Each recipe is written down on the blog too. For me, the best recipes have minimal ingredients. And you have to practice on yourself. Try out the recipes first before she gets there! It always makes perfect. And if you have questions, email me at: cookthisgetlaid (at) gmail (dot) com
Q: Are there certain recipes that you have that will turn a not so healthy eater into a believer? If so can you name a couple?
A: My roast chicken gets thumbs up from everyone! I’m making it tonight actually. It’s juicy, easy and it makes the entire house smell amazing. Or the shrimp fra diavolo, which is sauteed shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce. Every one of my recipes is simple. That’s what I go for, really easy comforting food.
Final Thoughts?
If there’s one final thing I can say to the non-believers: healthy food is delicious and easy. Specifically to men, it is possible to make your intimate experiences that much better – WHEN YOU’RE HEALTHY. If you keep eating bad foods, it can affect your sex life negatively. So there’s no time like now to start eating wholesome, delicious and energizing foods.
